"When we were ten growing up in Georgia."
Three young girls meet under a tree in Georgia and bury a box. For Lucy, Kit and Mimi this box holds their dreams for the future. A promise is made that on graduation day from high school they will return and dig up the box at midnight. They would then see if the accomplished their dreams. All they have to do is come together after eight years apart.
"We put our dreams in abox and buried it."

"Pop I really worked hard to be valedictorian."
Lucy (Britney Spears) lives alone with her father since her mother walked out on them when she was three. Her father played by Dan Aykroyd has done his best in raising her and he is extremely protective of his daughter. Lucy has grown up as to be a bright and intelligent student. Kit (Zoe Saldana) has grown into a snobbish young woman hanging around with her elitist groups. Kit, as a young girl was fairly fat, something her mother found unacceptable and forced her to lose weight. When mother found that a thinner and pretty Kit was more than beautiful than her, she found that unacceptable as well. Mimi (Taryn Manning) is the more rebellious one, at least she seems so on the outside. On the inside she is an insecure young girl who happens to be pregnant, refusing to tell anyone who the father is. At the graduation she is the one who reminds the others about their promise to meet at midnight to did up their box.

"I have better things to do than dig up an old box."
Kit is not interested in living up to her childhood promises, she has to meet up with her fiancee. Lucy has to meet with her boyfriend for an after the prom attempt at sex which fails miserably. Mimi is the only one under the tree at midnight. The other two show up as well and they dig up the box that contains their little treasuers. Among the items is bridal Barbie; a locket that has a picture of Lucy's mother in it and a wish to someday find her in Arizona; Mimi's wish to audition for a record company and a picture of the three of them as young children.

"We have a wedding to plan."
Mimi tells the others that she is going to fulfil her dream, by going to California and do her audition for a record company and wants the other two to come along. Kit has her wedding to plan and can not go. Lucy has decided, against her father's wishes, to go and find her mother in Arizona and so she turns down the invitation. Mimi still is intent on going and in the morning meets with her ride.

"No one drives the cruiser but me."
Ben (Anson Mount) the driver meets Mimi with his 1973 Buick Skylark cruiser convertible, a car that he treasures more than anything else. He make sthis clear to the girls that no one drives the cruiser only him. What, you didn't figure out the other two would show up, shame on you. Kit found out her fiancee was staying longer in California, so she decides to surprise him, something she will regret doing. Lucy plans on only going as far a Arizona where she intends to visit her mother, something that she will regret as well.

"I'm on a road trip with a killer."
The four make the journey towards California where they come closer together and learn more about themselves. it is a journey of discoveries and disappointments. Relationships will end and some will blossom and of course the one who doesn't really want to sing, will. Hey come on, you didn't think that Ms. Spears would not end up singing did you? Her main song, which I admit is pretty good is called NOT A GIRL NOT YET A WOMAN.

"She said I was a mistake."
The movie is simply a teenage movie for young girls. It is a good date movie if you want to take your teenage girlfriend to a movie she will like. For parents who are going to end up taking their young daughters to see this, you can take them without worry, as it has no nudity, no sex, no violence and no harsh language. it's a safe movie for all ages. The story is fairly saccharin but reasonably well written. Though it will never be a great classic, it's still worth while. It should also do well on the video rental circuit.

"I don't have a mother."
In case you are wondering, yes you will find out who is the father of Mimi's child. My biggest disappointment was that Kim Cattrell as Lucy's mother had such a small part. Unfortunately the parents in this movie get short rift, so much so that I don't even remembering the names of the parent's even being mentioned.CROSSROADS will probably be best seen, by most, as part of a double feature at your local drive-in theatre. This is a popcorn movie, so sit back, chomp away and enjoy the movie.

"This time we didn't make any promises for the future. We just buried our past."
