Drew Barrymore is Dylan Cameron Diaz is Natalie Lucy Liu is Alex These are CHARLIE'S ANGELS, working for John Forsythe the voice of Charlie and Charles Townsend's Detective Agency. Yes this is the same voice from the TV series. John Bosely is still played as the fop only this time the part played by David Doyle is portrayed by Bill Murray. Interestingly enough they all work good together. They give us a fine entertaining film that has lots of chop socky action and fine performances. Over all CHARLIE'S ANGELS is a fun movie that everyone should enjoy. It is quite obvious that the three actresses worked out hard to get into top shape for this film. They show excellent form in all the fight scenes. The MATRIX style martial arts is used quite a bit in this film as well. The film makes excellent use of arial stunts that will leave you amazed. Suspend some disbelief, sit back and enjoy. The film opens in a plane and eventually out of the plane. The director uses fast cuts to move the action along quickly. This is one fine arial scene. Director, Joseph McGinty, uses fast bites to show the "origin" of the three young women to the tune of "Just Call Me Angel In The Morning." "Hey, I signed the release, so you can feel free to stick things in my slot." We are given a glimpse of their private lives. Natalie seems to be living alone and entertains here self by dancing. Wait until you see her bum dance. It is quite funny. Ah, Cameron if only you would eat a little more, you would look gggreat. She resembles Alley McBeal in this movie. Don't get me wrong here, she still is the best fighter in the movie. Dylan's private time seems to be spent with "The Chad" played by Tom Green. He lives on a tugboat and seems to be rightfully insecure when it comes to Dylan. Alex apends her time in a trailer on a movie set with her boyfriend Matt LeBlanc who is an actor. There are some great scenes with the trailer and with Lucy liu as well. While the others seem to laugh at their roles she is the one who takes things seriously. Action wise she is top notch. Her fight with THE THIN MAN is really tight and beautifully orchestrated. Crispen Glover is the perfect choice for the silent but deadly killer. Their mission is to recover stolen software and rescue the creator, Eric Nox played by Sam Rockwell. The bad guy they are told is Roger Corwin played by Tim Curry. It seems he has stolen the software and incorporated into his mainframe computers. To retrieve the software the three angels must penetrate the high security building and get to the mainframe and then extract the software. It definitely would not be that easy. They plan everything down to the last detail and eventually commit the break in. You will get to see Diaz in a complete white suit that is rather revealling in its snuggness. Ahh, if only she had just a bit more meat on her bones. But I digress. Anyway the film moves along and as it it does we see that it is not a film that takes itself seriously as witnessed by the sumo wrestling costume scene. A great action sequence that is on the serious side is the first encounter between the three angels and THE THIN MAN. All the deadly encounters with The Thin Man really stand out and Crispen has to be congratulated for one fine job . Nox is rescued but all is not what it seems. The software is a special voice id recognition code that can be used in spy satellites to track people down by their voice. The trail to capture Corwin leads the four to the race track where we are treated to one interesting race sequence which includes the dangerous Thin Man. We begin to see that Nox's partner, Vivian (Kelly Lynch) has some sinister plot going that will mean the death of some characters. Be prepared for lots of plot twists, chase sequences and incredible helicopter action before the end of this movie. This is a movie that barely stands still long enough for you to catch your breath. It is the type of movie that just keeps you hopping. Any reviewer who tries to write about this film and not see that it is a clever spoof should move on to doing something else. This is a movie that obviously allows three young actresses to have fun. Drew Barrymore, who produced this film did so as a labour of love and it shows. I will be really surprised if CHARLIE'S ANGELS is not a big hit. As for the music, the soundtrack to CHARLIE'S ANGELS is excellent and I am sure the cd will sell like hotcakes. The "Barrcuda" song that is used with Lucy Liu is well worth the cost of the cd. This is the type of film where I suggest that you sit back with a bucket of popcorn and drink and enjoy the ride. I recommend it highly for fun. |
