Action Comedy

"Last time I was this naked, I was coming out of a uterus."
This is not going to be a long review since this is a simple straight forward comedy. It is a plain, fun movie to watch and enjoy. Sandra Bullock goes from a plain Jane , tough as nails 24/7 FBI agent to becoming a glamourous beauty queen.

"If I ever had a daughter, I imagine she would be like you."
After making a mistake while on duty Gracie Hart (Sandra Bullock) is demoted until they need her on a case involving The Citizen a terrorist who says he is going to do something at the Miss USA Beauty pageant. She is put under the charge of fellow agent Eric Matthews (Benjamin Bratt), her favourite puching bag. She has to go undercover as a beauty contestant to try and find the terrorist before he kills. To assist her with the emergency assignment, the bureau enlists the help of Victor Melling (Michael Caine) who is a pageant consultant. He instructs Gracie in the basics and by the time he is finished she is stunningly beautiful and becomes "Gracie Lou Freebush," beauty pageant contestant. There is a great scene when she walks out in slow motion in heels and tight skirt that makes her look like every man's dream (probably some women as well). Hey I may be old but I'm not dead.

"Twenty five years of bitches and they want to steal my beauty pageant."
MISS CONGENIALITY moves on to familiar territory. Nothing really new happens in this movie, it is just fun to watch. All of this would have been at home in an old I LOVE LUCY episode. While she gets confortable and close to the other contestants she meets Kathy Morningside (Candice Bergen) and Stan Fields (William Shatner). It was nice seeing Ms. Bergen again on the screen. I hadn't seen her since her television show Murphy Brown went off the air. She runs the pageant with her son and Stan hosts it. Shatner plays this character to the hilt with all his over acting abilities.

"You think I'm gorgeous, you want to date me, you want to marry me?"
Gracie is certain the terrorist is going to blow up the pageant but the other agents feel the entire thing is a hoax and leave. She has formed friendships with the other contestants and refuses to let any of them to be killed. She puts her job on the line because helping these women was more important. The action and comedy becomes fast and furious by the end but it is a satisfying finale. This is a popcorn and candy movie, filling and sweet, what more is there to say. Enjoy.

"I'm truly touched and I really do want world peace."
As a rather humourous side note to this film, William Shatner was contracted to host a major beauty contest after this movie came out. Should be interesting to see his real life performance, eh.

"I'm an FBI agent not a trained monkey."
